Sanitation Supervisor (Newport News)

WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Must be available all shifts; to include nights, weekends and holidays.

SUMMARY: Provides critical leadership in Plant with emphasis on equipment usage and sanitation programs. Management and coordination of all the operations of CIP (clean-in-place) systems. Responsible for overall cleanliness and maintenance of equipment used to process dairy products, such as agitators, spray balls, gaskets, piping lines, valves, silos, tanks, and operating equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Review all documentation and records associated with the position to adhere to legal requirements and standards for Maola Milk Production Plant. Documentation will include but is not limited to wash charts (both physical and electronic), titrations of chemicals, and use of the electronic interface system.
  • Auditing, Training, and implementation of new processes to uphold and improve processes as it relates to environmental and sanitation of the equipment and plant overall.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures and review current Standard Operating Procedures to ensure best practices.
  • Contribute and manage the Work Order Program as it relates to the Environmental and Sanitation program and parts that function in the department.
  • Manage the Master Sanitation and Preventive Maintenance program for the Environmental and Sanitation department. All preventative maintenance and master sanitation should be completed in the predetermined time allotted by Maola Milk Production Plant to identify any equipment needing repair ahead of its scheduled Maintenance time.
  • Responsible for making sure the Master Sanitation Program is completed each month.
  • Use of the Electronic Interface System Program to identify abnormalities during wash cycles and any improvements that may be required to meet specifications of the wash cycles.
  • Understands how to safely handle chemicals, identify chemical hazards of mixing chemicals for safety compliance, read SDS sheets, wear and enforce wearing of personal protective equipment use by all plant personnel.
  • Champion improvements for the plant related to the Environmental and Sanitation department for our Food Safety and Quality as well as Employee Safety Program.
  • Work in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Team to obtain the analyzed data from the department. Champion and own the improvement of product and the plant related to Environmental, End of Code, Employee Cleaning of equipment, and other functions as they relate to the department for this position.
  • Continue to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities as the company implements new technologies into the process. This includes valves, agitators, HMI’s, etc.
  • Work closely with other departments to coordinate adequate cleaning and protection of equipment and products. All projects are adequately planned to minimize business interruptions.
  • Cross train to learn all functions of employees on the team for proper shift coverage. Daily presence on the floor required and hands being on with equipment. Foster a team that works well with all departments.
  • Support the overall team by working for and with all team members as needed.
  • COP (clean-out-of-place) silos, tanks, lines, valves, pumps, food contact and non-contact surfaces, etc.
  • Perform the basic housekeeping to include cleaning floors, walls, ceiling, air vents, lights, etc., of the plant, equipment, and exterior of all equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HACCP programs and verification, GMP’s, and State and Federal food safety regulations.
  • Supervisory, leadership, and people management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to use Windows Word and Excel programs.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Industry experience in Dairy/Food/Beverage and familiarity with dairy/food processing equipment and CIP systems preferred.
  • Experience with monitoring, verification, and validation of cleaning preferred.
  • Supervision experience preferred.
  • Other related experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, reaching, handling, near and far vision. Able to lift heavy (100 lbs. max or 50 lbs. frequently).
