BASIC FUNCTION:
Under administrative direction, to design, monitor and provide over-and-above instructional services in a
wide variety of educational areas ranging from basic skills to advanced skills for eligible pupils in
designated curricular areas. To plan, carry out, and evaluate instructional activities for both groups and
individual pupils, as appropriate for the assignment segment and subject area(s).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Teaches in accordance with the abilities and achievements of the pupils assigned to classes, and in
conformance with the school’s philosophy, goals and objectives as expressed in the school’s courses of
study.
Develops performance objectives and lesson plans that are consistent with established school goals and
objectives.
Maintains a behavioral climate in classroom conducive to learning and works cooperatively with school
colleagues to resolve problems of pupil behavior.
Identifies and attempts to meet special needs of all pupils, and initiates referrals to special programs and
services.
Communicates with pupils and parents regarding the educational and social progress of pupils. Prepares
formal progress reports and provides other information appropriate for inclusion in the cumulative record
of pupils assigned to classes.
Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
Assists in interpreting the programs and goals of the school to the community.
Maintains plans, seating charts, and instructional materials in such a way that they can be utilized by
substitute teaching personnel when the need arises.
Maintains student independent study packets to provide students to ensure continued learning when
student unable to attend classroom meetings; monitor and evaluate student independent study work.
Prepares and assists other staff in preparation of diagnostic and prescriptive materials for eligible
students.
Familiarizes self with wide variety of teaching techniques, new methodology and materials.
Executes and prepares such forms, records, and reports as may be called for in the management of the
school.
Works collaboratively and cooperatively with school colleagues in planning and implementing the
educational programs of the school.
Exercises supervision and care over all furniture, books, supplies, and equipment entrusted to teacher’s
care and instructs pupils in the proper use and preservation of school property.
Attends meetings called by Chief Executive Office, Chief Academic Officer and Principal.
Supervises extracurricular activities.
Serves on school committees and project teams.
Attends and participates in school in-services training and professional development activities.
Develops lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state learning standards and the additional specific
grade-by-grade learning standards set forth in the charter.
Coordinates lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the
same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis.
Prepares students adequately for all required assessments.
Prepares individual student achievement reports for parents at least 3 times each school year.
Provides an inviting, exciting, innovative learning environment.
Engages in effective and appropriate classroom management.
Accepts and incorporates feedback from coaching from administrative staff.
Perform related duties as assigned.
TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university and specialized course work in the designated
area of responsibility.
3-years teaching experience desired but not required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of basic teaching credential appropriate to the assigned segment or credentials or equivalent
authorization, issued by the California Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
SAMPLE ENVIRONMENT:
This position works in a variety of settings including classrooms and outdoors and may experience heat or
cold extremes as well as fumes, odors, and dust; noise level is moderate to loud.
SAMPLE PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; seeing to read volumes of printed
data; sitting for extended periods of time; physical, mental and emotional stamina to endure long hours
under sometimes stressful conditions.
Spends the majority of the day standing and sitting in the classroom. While standing the teacher will
frequently hold light objects they are working and demonstrating. These can be held from waist level to
slightly above the teacher’s head. Teacher must be able to walk through the classroom and be able to
maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Dealing with students can entail kneeling or squatting, stooping
and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis on a given day. The
chalkboard or white board is occasionally to frequently used which can require grasping the chalk or
marker or eraser, reaching at, below or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity and
may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at class.
The teacher may use computers, overhead projectors, TV, VCR. which would require a 10-pound force to
push or pull the TV/VCR stand. The overhead projector requires 5 pounds of force to move. When
working with equipment it may also be necessary to forward bend, squat, and/or kneel.
The teacher often moves children’s desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence
teaching situations. It is occasionally necessary to life and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the
office to the classroom up to 200 feet away.
The teacher must sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading and other duties. This
is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist, leaning on the forearms, and looking down
which requires neck flexion. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, and
other supplies., either occasionally or frequently, depending on the day.
