Oriden, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, is a renewable energy solutions provider focused on customized solutions for end-user energy customers. The services we provide include development and permitting, construction, financing/ownership, and asset management of renewable energy projects. The team is venture funded by Mitsubishi Power, a Japanese multinational with operations globally and regional headquarters in Lake Mary, FL. Our solutions meet the clean energy needs for community solar customers, behind-the-meter commercial & industrial customers, and transmission and distribution level front-of-the-meter customers.
We are seeking a Senior Land Representative to support the Company’s project development activities in Indiana. This position will assist with site identification, real estate research, landowner outreach, and contract negotiations facilitating the development of storage and solar projects.
Key activities will consist of the identification of properties suitable for solar development, real estate negotiations, real estate due diligence, and preparing the real estate component of storage, solar, hydrogen, and wind projects for financing and development in collaboration with both internal and external team resources.
The position is best suited for candidates with an educational background in real estate, legal, energy, or business from an accredited college or university, however substantial and specific experience and demonstrated success in real estate in the energy sector is also an important consideration. The candidate should have proven experience effectively organizing, negotiating, and closing real estate transactions for large-scale development projects and a strong understanding of real estate fundamentals, including matters related to real estate acquisition, title assessment, and title curative.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct and supervise real estate transaction activity within the Real Estate Group, including site assessment, organizing and executing outreach to landowners, negotiation and closing of complex real estate contracts, title assessment, and curative measures to address issues of title.
- Create and comply with project budgets for the anticipated real estate costs.
- Ensure the creation and maintenance of appropriate documentation and reports for senior management approval of real estate transactions.
- Collaborate with team members from different disciplines, such as Development, Engineering, Accounting, Finance to ensure that key project objectives and criteria are accomplished in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Ensure compliance with real estate contract terms and maintain orderly databases of key transaction information.
- Identify process improvements and implement enhanced business practices that increase efficiency, reliability, and timeliness of the real estate functions.
- Participate in strategic planning processes that facilitate project development mission and assure coordination of activities between company functions.
- Support Finance Department with real estate matters related to project financing, divestments, and acquisitions.
- Review, comment and address land surveys, title commitment letters, ordinances, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree with strong academic record is preferred. A Juris Doctor degree is additionally useful.
A minimum of five years of prior experience in real estate in the energy sector is required. Specific experience in real estate supporting storage, solar and wind energy projects in MISO and/or PJM is strongly preferred.
Experience in real estate due diligence, including assessment of title risk and curing of title issues is valued.
Communication and Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, journals, complex instructions and memorandums. Ability to write detailed reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, landowners, and fellow employees. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in teams and apply integrative skills.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to storage, solar and wind energy development; including resource studies, environmental studies, transmission issues, public relations, public policy, sales, and engineering.
Computer Skills: An individual must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and GIS systems.
Project Management: Competent in the application of standard project-management control tools and techniques including project planning, cost management, risk management, progress measurement, and control/reporting of project information. Experience managing simultaneous activities under time deadlines is crucial.
Demonstrated team player, attention to detail, strong work ethic and a drive to deliver results is a must.
Must be willing to independently travel and meet in-person with landowners spanning the United States.
