Under the supervision of Account Executives and Call Center Managers, the Benefits Counselor will contact client employees to educate them on the available insurance products offered by their employer. The Benefits Counselor collaborates with the Account Executive and Call Center Managers to ensure that client standards and requirements are met during benefits consultations within the client’s Benefit Enrollment Period. The Benefits Counselor should be able to consult using fact finding initiatives, while building rapport to determine and advise on the best fit solutions for the client employee. Therefore, the Benefits Counselor will educate and assist employees in benefits enrollment activities, as directed by the client. This opportunity is available for on-site travel or work-from-home call center. Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the accuracy and understanding of all benefits available on all enrollments assigned.
  • Build rapport with Employee customers to gain accurate needs assessment and guidance.
  • Assists with new-hire benefits enrollment.
  • Performs accuracy and quality checks on submitted enrollment platforms.
  • Master enrollment platforms and systems. 
  • Assist in distribution of all benefits enrollment materials, required forms, and determining eligibility.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes as they may apply.
  • Responds to enrollment inquiries from Customer Employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, and other general inquiries.
  • Coordinates with team members to maintain strict customer appointment windows with scheduling tool.
  • Adheres to case guidelines set forth by Account Executive and Client expectations.
  • Participates in continuous training and education. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • As a Benefits Counselor there exists the daily opportunity to demonstrate the following:
  • Knowledge of insurance products, such as life, health, and voluntary benefits.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interpret customer needs and educate on available benefits.
  • Ability to maintain documentation in a concise, accurate and timely fashion.
  • Ability to manage scheduled appointments for call center contact, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Attending department meetings and training, whether on-site or online.
  • Perform other reporting and administrative duties as directed.
  • Ability to work various shifts. 
  • The ability to travel for extended periods (o.ne or two weeks at a time), is optional but Covid Vaccinations are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate would have previously demonstrated experience working in the field of employer and insurance services, working with persons from diverse backgrounds or persons with barriers to competitive employment, educating persons on insurance benefits, or consulting and selling voluntary benefit products. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Insurance Field selling or enrolling clients in Group or Voluntary Benefits.
  • Current and active resident state license in Life and Health Insurance.
  • Ability to pass or clear necessary screenings and background check requirements.
  • Access to adequate and efficient quiet work area from home with necessary internet connections.
  • Willingness to travel more than 50% of the time during 4th Quarter Season, if opportunities become available – Covid Vaccinations are required for travel opportunities.
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of Windows and Microsoft based programs.
  • Basic math skills; deductive ability with analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods staring at a computer screen, with consistent exposure to blue light and glare.
  • Reaching, stretching, and bending of arms periodically.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
