Licensed Professional Counselor (Pittsburgh)

The LPC functions as a core member of a collaborative care team that involves a psychiatrist, psychologist, LCSW’s and other behavioral health providers in an outpatient setting. The LPC is responsible for coordinating and supporting mental health services (including IDD/MH) within an outpatient setting and for coordinating referrals to clinically indicated services to community-based services. Evidence-based treatments and/or collaboration with other mental health providers, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assess or provide therapy, counseling, intervention and/or education to individuals including but not limited a diverse client population with anxiety, depression and other behavioral health diagnoses in a professional manner. 
  • Screen and assess clients for common mental health and provide clinically appropriate treatment based on an objective mental health assessment.
  • Provide client education about common mental health and available treatment options.
  • Monitor clients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment
  • side effects or complications.
  • Support psychotropic medication management prescribed by internal and external providers focusing on treatment, adherence, side effects and other complications, and effectiveness of treatment.
  • Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques as applicable in an outclient setting.
  • Provide or facilitate in-clinic or outside referrals to evidence-based psychosocial treatments (e.g., CBT, IPT) as clinically indicated.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled (usually weekly) caseload consultation with the psychiatric consultant and communicate resulting treatment recommendations to the client’s primary care provider, if needed.
  • Facilitate client engagement and follow-up in behavioral health services.
  • Track client follow-up and clinical outcomes. Document client visits and telephone encounters with the individual client record within the electronic medical record.
  • Document client progress and treatment recommendations in the registry so they can be easily shared with the psychiatrist and other treating providers.
  • Facilitate treatment plan changes for clients who are not improving as expected (including medication management and other treatment modalities).
  • Facilitate referrals for clinically indicated services outside the outpatient clinic setting (e.g., social services such as but not limited to community, expanded mental health services, substance abuse treatment).
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Assist with the ongoing support of assigned telepsychiatry services
  • Participate in planned supervision and case consultation conferences with psychiatrist and mental health team members.
  • Adhere to ethical billing practices as it relates to clinical practice and specific to payer reimbursement.
  • Adhere to the performance standard of 85% or greater as it related to billable client visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) required. Fully Licensed and Credentialed. Minimum of two years clinical work experience in an outpatient environment. Experience working with adult, and/or child and adolescent populations. 

Other Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of principles, theories, values, and ethics of Behavioral Health treatment practices, including SBIRT, motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based methodologies.
  • Must be committed to providing high quality care to underserved and diverse populations.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.
  • Demonstrated success in managing difficult client situations, including conflict resolution training
  • Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures within in an outpatient care environment
  • Demonstrated success and familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typically found within most progressive health care environments (i.e., personal computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, client records systems, EMR systems, etc.)
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills required.
  • A valid driver’s license along with access to a vehicle.
  • Management of work processes along with strong computer skills for documentation purposes.
  • Maintain confidential information within HIPAA guidelines and organizational policies and procedures.
  • As a fully credentialed provider, adherence to the provider responsibilities set forth by all payers.
  • Ability to be flexible especially with scheduling and site locations and to perform and prioritize multiple functions and tasks.
  • Open communication and professionalism
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Second language a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
