Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Vice President of Engineering will lead, plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee activities in the Engineering Department, ensuring the on-time development of new products and the implementation of efficient processes, operations and cost-effective systems to meet all the needs of the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes clear objectives and ensures accountability to deliver those objectives.
  • Ensure talent acquisition and development across the department.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Accelerate NPD (New Product Development) to drive profitable new business.
  • Ensure projects and delivered on time and budget.
  • Oversees the preparation and final approval of project plans.
  • Conducts or acquires cost analysis for development projects; prepares or delegates preparation of schedule of project completion dates.
  • Ensures that projects are completed within budget and in an economical manner.
  • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company’s engineering and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the company’s executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
  • Ensures that departmental decisions such as staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
  • Establishes and administers the department’s budget.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organizations industry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong technical and cross functional leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated track record on successful on time delivery of NPD projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Master’s degree in engineering management or business administration preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 7 years in a management role that required both technical and cross functional leadership.
  • Previous experience working in an AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 manufacturing environment is preferrable.
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems.
  • Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team.
  • Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience.
  • This position requires domestic and possibly international travel up to 10 percent.
